The Community:

Just like Harrison and Purchase, West Harrison is an area in the town of Harrison, NY.  Several centuries ago, a man named John Harrison purchased the land that would  become the town of Harrison.  On the map, someone wrote "Harrison's Purchase" and the name for the area stuck.  That's why today, part of the town is known as Harrison, while the other part is known as Purchase.  West Harrison is a neighborhood in the northwest part of town, and shares borders with Silver Lake, the Brae Burn Golf Course and I-287.

The Schools:

West Harrison, NY is served by the Harrison Central School District.  This accomplished school district includes such high-ranking schools as Purchase Elementary, S.J. Preston Elementary, Parsons Elementary, Harrison Avenue Elementary, LMK Middle School and Harrison High School.  West Harrison is also the home of Fordham University's Westchester campus.  The university opened the campus, which is on 32 acres in West Harrison, in 2008.

What to do in West Harrison:

There is plenty to do in West Harrison, which is located in Westchester County, New York.  Those who enjoy being outdoors will love the Passidomo Veterans Memorial Park and Pool in West Harrison.  For the history buff in your family, West Harrison contains the Revolutionary War battleground from the Battle of White Plains.  In fact, West Harrison is rich in history.  Residents are just a short drive from several historical landmarks, including the West Harrison Honor Roll Defenders of Our Freedom marker, the Lockheed T-33 landmark and the VFW Post 5463  Veterans Memorial.  There's even a historical mill in the area - the Horton Grist Mill - which is off of Lake Street in West Harrison.
